Case Study

Bullring relaunches

Bullring in Birmingham is one of Europe's largest city centre retail developments, consisting of over 1.3 million sq ft of retail and catering space, comprising 140 shops and 3,100 car parking spaces.

The Challenge

Although the centre opened in September 2003, C&W have been involved in the Bullring for over 15 years, initially providing development advice to The Birmingham Alliance (Hammerson, Land Securities and Henderson). In addition, we have been one of the joint letting agents on the scheme for both pre-letting and subsequent asset management.

The main challenge, pre-opening, was to attract the very best names in retail to Bullring and ensure that the Centre became a 'must-have' location for national and international retailers.

Our Impact

We assisted in the delivery of the flagship Selfridges letting (250,000 sq ft). C&W also delivered key lettings to H&M (33,000 sq ft), GAP (16,000 sq ft) and Dixons (32,000sq ft), and we have delivered many of the top Zone A lettings in the scheme.

The Outcome

Bullring, with its iconic Selfridges design, is now one of Birmingham’s most famous landmarks. The centre itself is one of the most successful in the UK, attracting over 38 million people in its first year. In 2004, Bullring was ranked 14th best scheme in the UK by TW Associates, the highest new entrant in the list of 500 and in January 2005, C&W was re-appointed as joint letting agent.
