Italy was the winner of the Men’s Shield in this year’s Cushman & Wakefield
European Five-a-side Football Tournament, which took place in London on 7 July.
Tiziano Zanicchi, captain of the Italian team and the Milan office’s head of IT, said:
“Italy has shown that it knows the recipe for winning: talent, training, team spirit and
fair play. Our victory comes exactly one year after Italy celebrated its magical World Cup
final in 2006, with the same opponent, France, and also winning on penalties.”
Poland took the Women’s Shield. Ewelina Szymkowska, team captain and an Assistant in
Warsaw’s Advisory team, said: “We played seven games in all, and won six, to
Greece, Spain, the UK Client Solutions’ team, Hungary and Italy, and drew the seventh,
against Italy. It was a fantastic day, and in particular the opportunity to get to know our
colleagues from across Europe.”
This is the 15th C&W European Football Tournament, with more teams entering
this year than ever before, with 51 in total – 36 men’s teams and 15 women’s
teams. The competitors came from Cushman & Wakefield’s offices across Europe, with
around 350 people taking to the pitches and a further couple of hundred of supporters from
C&W’s EMEA HQ in London.
Paul Bacon, C&W’s EMEA CEO, was on hand to present the Awards: “The
Tournament is a unique event. As always, this year it was tremendous fun, and it was great to
see so many teams representing so many different countries, and in particular the significant
increase in the number of women’s teams.”
In addition, the Portugal men’s team took the Men’s Plate; the Man of the Match
Award went to Matteo Alessandrino, an Associate in Milan’s Retail Agency team; and the
Woman of the Match was Zoe Osborne, a Senior Client Accountant in Asset Management, London.
This year’s organisers were Holly Franklin and Emily Gray of Client Solutions in
London.
