Just five days after Spain won Euro 2008, the Madrid football team of global real estate
consultant Cushman & Wakefield (C&W) claimed another victory for their country by
winning the Men’s Shield in Cushman & Wakefield’s European Five-a-side Football
Tournament 2008.
In the finals, the Madrid team faced the ‘Northern Monkeys’, representing
C&W’s offices in Manchester.
Captain Fernando Arcos, Associate in the Madrid Office Agency team, said: “After the
result of our national team in Euro 2008, we wanted to give our best in the Cushman &
Wakefield European championships. The quality of our players, our determination, our hard work,
and, the most important factor, the great atmosphere and comradeship throughout the
tournament, were key in helping us to bring home the trophy.”
The Women’s Shield was taken by Italy. Mona Lukander, the Italian captain, and
receptionist in the Milan office of Cushman & Wakefield, said:“We promised last year
that 2008 would be the year of our victory. It was quite hard but with strong determination and
a great team spirit, we did it. It was a fantastic day.”
Forty-seven teams entered the 16th C&W European Football Tournament this
year;
33 men’s teams and 14 women’s teams, with competitors coming from Cushman &
Wakefield’s offices across Europe.
Paul Bacon, EMEA CEO of Cushman & Wakefield, said: “This event is one of the
highlights of the firm’s social and sporting calendar because it involves so many people
from so many different countries and departments. It is great to see so many people enjoying
the day, making friends and having fun.”
In addition, the Men’s Plate went to the Paris team, with the runner-up being Poland.
The Man of the Tournament Award went to Henry Connell and the Woman of the Tournament
Award to Christiane Bührsch, both of Client Solutions.
This year’s organisers were Holly Franklin of the Capital Markets Group, Emily Gray of
Valuation and Samantha Kempe of Corporate Finance in London.
