European Cities Monitor to celebrate its 20th year in October

This year’s European Cities Monitor report from global real estate consultant Cushman & Wakefield will feature a special analysis of Europe’s largest cities over the last 20 years and will conclude that cities in Spain and Central & Eastern Europe have been the best performing over the long term.

The 20^th anniversary issue of the report will also conclude that cities hosting major sporting events including the Olympics and Commonwealth Games generally receive a significant long term boost to their profile and perception as a business location.

European Cities Monitor will be launched on Tuesday 6^th October at www.europeancitiesmonitor.eu and www.cushmanwakefield.com

Cushman & Wakefield launched European Cities Monitor in 1990. The annual report is based on interviews with executives in charge of location for 500 of Europe’s largest companies. In addition to the overall ranking of which 34 cities are considered the leading business locations, they are also ranked against a number of criteria such as transport links, telecommunications, access to markets, availability and quality of staff, cost of office space and quality of life.

Elaine Rossall, European research analyst, Cushman & Wakefield, said: “Over 20 years a number of major cities have seen their fortunes decline significantly in the survey. Others which have been effectively promoted to attract inward investment have risen in the rankings to rate among the world’s leading business cities. Cost issues have over time become increasingly important over the 20 years with the cost of staff and office property seeing a steady rise.”
