  • Jim Dieter Named Head of Industrial Practice

    21 Jan, 2010, New York

Jim Dieter, SIOR - one of the most experienced and respected names in the commercial real estate industry - has been appointed to lead the industrial real estate practice throughout the U.S. for the global commercial real estate services firm Cushman & Wakefield, it was announced today.

Mr. Dieter, a 35-year industry veteran, joins Cushman & Wakefield as Executive Vice President, Industrial Brokerage, U.S., and will be charged with strengthening the firm's market-leading industrial platform from both the landlord and tenant perspective.

He will be based in Chicago, the second largest industrial market in the U.S. and the hub of Cushman & Wakefield's industrial practice.

"With his wealth of experience, great reputation and infectious passion for this business, Jim Dieter is a perfect match for Cushman & Wakefield," said John C. Santora, President and CEO, Americas, for Cushman & Wakefield. "We are thrilled to welcome him to our family and are confident that he will help take our industrial platform to even greater heights in the months and years to come."

Mr. Dieter comes to Cushman & Wakefield after announcing in November that he would retire, after nearly eight years, from his position overseeing more than 950 industrial real estate professionals as head of the industrial practice in The Americas at CB Richard Ellis.

"The opportunity to take a leadership role at a firm with the brand name, reputation and global reach of Cushman & Wakefield was one that I could not pass up," Mr. Dieter said. "I can't wait to get to work with my new colleagues, many of whom I have come to know closely over the past three-plus decades. They are truly among the best and brightest that our industry has to offer."

Mr. Dieter said that his immediate focus would be on "reaffirming the need for our brokers to collaborate with each other and with other service lines within the company to deliver the highest level of client service, and to conduct their individual business plans in the context of our national and global enterprise."

Joseph Harbert, Chief Operating Officer and Executive Vice President of Cushman & Wakefield's North Central Region said, "In addition to his national responsibilities, Mr. Dieter will play an especially significant role in the continuing growth of Cushman & Wakefield's industrial presence in the Chicago real estate market and other major industrial centers."

Throughout the course of his career, Mr. Dieter has worked with nearly every one of the nation's leading industrial developers and REITS and has been personally involved in hundreds of sales and lease transactions for manufacturing, distribution and research/development properties. He has been honored with countless industry awards including, most recently, an "Award for Excellence" from NAIOP Chicago. He conducts speaking seminars throughout the U.S. on sales strategies, leadership and motivational techniques and is frequently quoted as a commercial real estate expert in the news media.

Mr. Dieter served in the U.S. Air Force during the Vietnam War.

In addition to the hiring of Mr. Dieter, Cushman & Wakefield also announced today the promotion of three longtime leaders within the firm's industrial practice group.

    A. Dwight Hotchkiss, SIOR has been promoted to Executive Managing Director - Industrial Operations, while Peter W. Quinn IV has been promoted to Executive Managing Director - Supply Chain. Christine Schultz, Director will head Marketing and Communications for the industrial platform.

Starting his career at Cushman & Wakefield in 1990, A. Dwight Hotchkiss quickly became one of the top industrial brokers in Southern California and in 2007, was elevated to Senior Managing Director in charge of the Western Region for the industrial platform. In 2008, Mr. Hotchkiss accepted the role of Senior Managing Director - Downtown Los Angeles branch, overseeing Cushman & Wakefield's second largest office in the U.S.

Peter W. Quinn IV joined Cushman & Wakefield as the Senior Managing Director of Global Supply Chain Solutions and Industrial Operations in 2005. His role has been vital to the development of Cushman & Wakefield's Global Supply Chain Solutions group and growth of the industrial platform. Prior to his career at Cushman & Wakefield, Mr. Quinn was a co-founder and Principal of Summit Realty Group. He is currently an active member of SIOR, CSCMP and WERC.

With more than 15 years of experience, Christine Schultz is a marketing and business development strategist specializing in industrial property types. Her career with Cushman & Wakefield began in 2002 as the regional head of marketing for the Southeast, based in Atlanta, GA. She was instrumental in the creation of the firm's Global Supply Chain Practice Group and was then promoted to Director of Marketing for the firm's Global Consulting Group. Ms. Schultz served in the U.S. Air Force during Operation Desert Shield/Desert Storm, specializing in supply chain management.

Also joining the industrial leadership team - one of the largest of its kind - is Dan Frankel, Senior Managing Director- Eastern Region. "I am truly honored to have Dwight, Pete, Dan and Christine as a part of our industrial leadership team," Mr. Dieter said. "I am excited to get to work with them to make the vision that we all share for Cushman & Wakefield a reality."
