  • Michael Rhydderch To Drive Pan-European Investment

    Responding to the increasing cross-border investment business transacted in Europe by Cushman & Wakefield Healey & Baker, Michael Rhydderch, Partner in the firm's Global Capital Markets team, is next month transferring from Italy to London where he will take on a new role overseeing an expanded cross-border group driving European investment business.

    The new group will work closely with all 120 of the firm's European investment surveyors based across 12 European markets and will be expanded to include two further Partners: Nick Jones, an Industrial Investment specialist currently based in Frankfurt, and Matthew Walker, currently co-head of Investment in Portugal. The group will be based in London and will be assisted by surveyors Christina Gellen and Matthew Knight.

Each member of the team has transactional experience in a number of continental European markets and they speak seven languages between them."

    In 2004, C&W/H&B's 120-strong European Capital Markets team concluded €7 billion of investment transactions across Europe.

    Recent highlights include;

    Representing INVESCO Real Estate, (acting on behalf of financial services organisation TIAA-CREF), in the purchase of a €493mn portfolio in the Paris region from Standard Life Investments. The portfolio includes Triangle de l'Arche, a 37,500 sq m office property in La Défense, and logistics schemes in Villabe and Bruyères-sur-Oise.

    Advised P&O on the sale of the sports and leisure resort La Manga in Spain to Spanish leisure and property company MedGroup for €146 million.

    On behalf of Curzon Global Partners C&W/H&B advised on the acquisition of a portfolio of 35 mainly office buildings in the Netherlands for around €170 million.

    Advised a joint venture of Apollo Real Estate and Roseland on the acquisition of the Ericsson HQ in Rome for a price in excess of €120m.

    Advised on the sale of St Enoch Shopping Centre in Glasgow for €390million on behalf of a joint venture formed by The Mills Corporation (US real estate investment trust) and Ivanhoe Cambridge (Canadian property company).

    On behalf of ING Real Estate advised on the sale of 46,000 sq m Galeria Butovice shopping centre in Prague for more than 100million.

    C&W/H&B is the investment advisor for the Danish Real Estate Club, set up by five major Danish pension funds last year with a view to investing up to €250mn a year in European indirect property vehicles outside Denmark over the next three to five years. The Club's members are PKA A/S, PenSam Liv, Kommunernes Pensionsforsikring A/S, PFA Invest International A/S and Finanssektorens Pensionskasse.
