Brokerage Team Transacts State's Largest Real Estate Deals
Cushman & Wakefield (C&W) has announced the opening of an office in Bethesda,
Maryland. The global real estate services firm has been increasingly active in Maryland's
commercial real estate market, negotiating three (3) of the top five (5) transactions in
Maryland during 2004.
Most recently, C&W closed a 316,524 square foot industrial lease, one of the largest
transactions in Maryland this year, with Sephora, a division of Moet Hennessey Louis Vuitton
(LMVH), the world's leading luxury group. The firm also transacted a 200,000 square foot
build-to-suit for The Mills Corporation's new headquarters in Chevy Chase, which was awarded
the Maryland Transaction of the Year by the Greater Washington Commercial Association of
Realtors.
Although C&W has operated successfully in Maryland from their existing offices in the
District and Northern Virginia for over 25 years, the firm recognizes increasing opportunities
in the Maryland market as an endorsement for their decision to establish a physical presence in
the state.
"We see a continued expansion of activity in Maryland," said Jim Underhill,
executive managing director for the Mid-Atlantic. "Our new office and recruitment of
talented professionals will help C&W leverage its current leadership position and enable us
to take advantage of this growth potential."
C&W brokerage professionals rank among the top producers in Maryland, with Jean
Wirsching, SIOR recognized as the number three broker in 2004 according to the Greater
Washington Commercial Association of Realtors (GWCAR). For the past 18 years, Ms. Wirsching has
focused on developing C&Ws Suburban Maryland market with an impressive tenant
representation roster of clients such as FedEx, Eagle Global and National Data Corporation.
She has received numerous industry awards honoring significant brokerage transactions,
career achievement and professionalism and served as the 2001 president of the
Maryland/District of Columbia/Northern Virginia Society of Industrial and Office Realtors
(SIOR) as well as a serving as founding member and president of Commercial Real Estate Women of
Suburban Maryland (CREW).
C&W's expansion plans include recruiting up to six brokers and support staff for the new
office. Michael A. Royce, a veteran broker with Transwestern, has recently been hired. Mr.
Royce, SIOR has extensive commercial real estate experience in the Baltimore-Washington
corridor and has consistently been a top producer in representing tenants and landlords such as
First Industrial Realty Trust, PS Business Parks and CareFirst.
