  • Cushman & Wakefield wins Community & Environmental Management - Best Retail Initiative Award 2006

    6 Dec, 2006, London

Hermes Real Estate has awarded its Community and Environment: Best Retail Initiative Award for 2006 to Cushman & Wakefield for its newly introduced Green and Gold Environmental Standards.

The presentation was made at Hermes' 13th Annual Responsible Property Investment Awards for 2006.  The awards recognise best practice, performance and innovation amongst Hermes' retained principal managing agents which, in addition to Cushman & Wakefield, include CB Richard Ellis, Jones Lang LaSalle and King Sturge.

Cushman & Wakefield has developed its Green and Gold Standards as an alternative to ISO14001 environmental management standard where environmental improvement are generally secondary to process and documentation requirements.  The Green and Gold Standards have been designed solely for property management based on Hermes' RPI Challenges, along with ISO14001, with managers on site supported by the C&W Environmental Management Manual.

The Green Standard is set as 'good practice' and concentrates on high environmental management performance through improved processes with little capital outlay.  The Gold Standard focuses on specific reduction of environmental impacts and sets high levels of performance across all areas; standards which will evolve over time.  Over the first six months of the initiative, two shopping centres – Crompton Place and St Johns – have both already achieved the Green Standard and have made significant steps toward the Gold Standard.

The Cushman & Wakefield team included Trudi Cummins, Senior Surveyor for Retail Asset Management, Marion Kempson, C&W Environmental Consultant, Chris Jones Centre Manager for Crystal Peaks, Victoria Mitchel Centre Manager, St John’s Shopping Centre, Leeds and Malcolm Angus Centre Manager, Crompton Place Bolton.  The team was fully supported by Simon Elmer, Head of Asset Management for Cushman & Wakefield.  The award was presented by Rupert Clarke CEO, Hermes Real Estate.

Cushman & Wakefield has an unrivalled record in the Hermes awards and was named Principal Property Manager of the Year for four consecutive years from 2002 until 2005.
