John C Cushman III Honored By Los Angeles Business Community

Real Estate Veteran Receives Highly Distinguished AwardCushman & Wakefield Chairman of the Board, John C. Cushman III, has been honored with the 2005 Lifetime Achievement Award at the 70th Annual Construction Industry Awards Luncheon, held by the Los Angeles Area Chamber of Commerce at the Millennium Biltmore Hotel in downtown Los Angeles.
The Annual Lifetime Achievement Award, introduced in 1949, recognizes individuals who have dedicated a lifetime to making an exceptional contribution to the built environment of Southern California. This year the award went to John C. Cushman, III and Robert J. Lowe, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Lowe Enterprises.
"I am deeply honored to receive the Lifetime Achievement Award and would like to extend my gratitude to the Los Angeles Area Chamber of Commerce for its significant contributions to the growth and prosperity of the Los Angeles region," says John C. Cushman III.
A true legend in commercial real estate worldwide, John C. Cushman has had a tremendous influence on the built environment and overall business climate of Southern California. He began his career with Cushman & Wakefield in 1963 in New York City, and in 1967 moved to Los Angeles to open Cushman & Wakefield's office in Southern California. He and his twin brother, Louis B. Cushman, started their own firm in 1978, Cushman Realty Corporation, which merged with Cushman & Wakefield in June 2001.
Since his move to Los Angeles, Mr. Cushman has been involved in some of the largest and most complicated real estate projects on the West Coast of the U.S., including the sale of the Pacific Lighting Corporation/Southern California Gas Company properties in Los Angeles, the sale of the Unocal headquarters complex, also in Los Angeles, and the relocation of Boeing's corporate headquarters from Seattle to Chicago.
Outside the Los Angeles area, John C. Cushman has been involved in some of the most complicated office building and land sales in the U.S., including the Home Insurance Building at 59 Maiden Lane in New York; the Merrill Lynch Building at One Liberty Plaza in New York; Mountain Bell Center in Denver; the 1.73-million-square-foot Renaissance Tower in Dallas; and the largest non-oil and gas land sale in the State of Alaska to Sohio Alaska.
Mr. Cushman's major lease transactions include the largest office lease in the world, the world headquarters of Merrill Lynch & Company involving 4 million square feet (initial occupancy) at the World Financial Center in New York City; the largest office building lease in the Western United States; and the largest office lease (aggregate rental) in 1997 in the United States for PaineWebber's headquarters in New York City.
John C. Cushman's tremendous enthusiasm and a strong belief in the renaissance of Downtown Los Angeles have been major drivers behind numerous positive developments and changes in the construction industry and business environment of the Los Angeles area.
