C&W's Russian office to advise on Gazprom-City

Gazprom Neft Invest, the oil subsidiary of Russian energy giant Gazprom, has appointed Cushman & Wakefield Stiles & Riabokobylko, the Russian office of global real estate consultant Cushman & Wakefield, to advise on the preliminary construction concept of Gazpom-City, a new business and administrative centre in the Russian city of St. Petersburg.

Together with a panel of expert advisers, led by Valentina Matvienko, Governor of St. Petersburg, and Alexey Miller, Chairman of Gazprom's Management Committee, Cushman & Wakefield Stiles & Riabokobylko advised on the selection of the development's initial architectural concept.

Sergey Riabokobylko, Senior Executive Director and Partner, Cushman & Wakefield Stiles & Riabokobylko, commented: "The panel was in full agreement with our opinion regarding the selection of the project proposed by the UK-based international architectural practice RMJM."

"The RMJM design, with its 396-metre high twisting glass needle, offered the best match to the developing urban context of St Petersburg," continued Sergey. "Their proposal also offered the latest technical achievements in high-rise construction and in energy efficiency, while the master planning of the development zones and proposals for the public areas both achieved high marks."

RMJM were chosen out of a short list of six architectural practices which also included Ateliers Jean Nouvel, Fuksas Associati SRL, Herzog & de Meuron Architekten AG, Office for Metropolitan Architecture (OMA) – founded by Rem Koolhaas, and Studio Daniel Libeskind LLC.

For the Gazprom-City project, Cushman & Wakefield Stiles & Riabokobylko put together a multi-disciplinary team of consultants from the European, North American and Asian offices of Cushman & Wakefield with development experience on such high-rise projects as Taipei 101 in Taiwan, currently the world's tallest building, as well as other landmark buildings.

The Gazprom-City project is located close to the historic centre of St. Petersburg on a 70-hectare former industrial site. The scheme will be developed in three phases, with the first phase encompassing the redevelopment of a 4.6-hectare area and the construction of the 396 metre-high headquarter building for Gazprom Neft Invest, which is to be one of the tallest buildings in Europe.
