C&W has announced the placement of another health club of the Virgin Active chain, this
time in Lisbon city centre. The new club opened its doors to the public on 1 June, and is
located at Galeria Comercial Palácio Sotto Mayor. It occupies a gross leasable area
(GLA) of around 7,000 m2 with 497 parking places. C&W represented Virgin Active in the
leasing of the new location.
Virgin Active began using the services of C&W at the start of 2006, when the chain
opened its first club in the Porto Plaza leisure and shopping centre, located in Porto
downtown. Virgin Active now has 4 health clubs in Portugal - two in Porto, one in Oeiras and
one in Lisbon.
Spearheaded by Richard Branson, Virgin Active has some 260 clubs and more than 1,300,000
members around the world.
Bernardo de Vicente, the managing director for Iberia of Virgin Active, said “Virgin
Active's values are fun, innovation, value for money and excellent customer service. We want to
offer more than our competitors for less money, and Virgin Active health clubs offer the best
value for money in the market The products we offer clearly have a positive influence on the
local communities, helping improve the health and well-being of our members. We have an
ambitious expansion plan for Portugal, which entails the opening of 20 clubs in the next 5
years.”
Mafalda Cotta of C&W’s Retail Department in Portugal said “We are most satisfied at the
opening of another club of the Virgin Active chain, not only because we were able to meet our
client's requirements but also because we are helping transform a location that struggled as a
shopping centre. Elsewhere, Virgin Active has a highly ambitious expansion plan, which
demonstrates that Portugal is an attractive option for international companies."
