Institution Taps Expertise of Commercial Real Estate Leaders
Cushman & Wakefield is pleased to announce that three of the firm’s top executives
have been named to the Board of Directors of the University of Southern California LUSK Center
for Real Estate.
John C. Cushman III, Chairman of the Board, has been appointed to the Advisory Council
of the LUSK Board of Directors.
Andrew D.Ratner, Executive Managing Director, has been appointed to the Executive
Committee of the LUSK Board.
Marc D. Renard, Executive Director, has been appointed to the Leadership Council of the
Board.
The LUSK Center for Real Estate works to advance research and educational activities in real
estate and urban economics, and address the issues that affect the real estate industry, the
urban economy and public policy. The LUSK Board members are highly-respected industry
leaders with broad knowledge and experience in the real estate industry. They provide
strategic direction to the Center’s activities and offer new ideas and approaches to
address the real estate issues that span the areas of finance, business, economics, policy,
planning, geography, law, engineering and architecture.
John C. Cushman III is a leader in commercial real estate worldwide. As
Chairman of the Board of Cushman & Wakefield, he is responsible for formulating and
articulating strategic policies and initiatives for the world’s largest privately held
commercial real estate services company.
Mr. Cushman moved to Los Angeles from New York City in 1967 to open Cushman &
Wakefield’s office in Southern California. He and his twin brother, Louis B.
Cushman, started their own firm in 1978, Cushman Realty Corporation, which merged with Cushman
& Wakefield in 2001.
Mr. Cushman negotiated the largest office lease in the world – the world headquarters
of Merrill Lynch & Company involving 4 million square feet (initial occupancy) at the World
Financial Center in New York City.
Mr. Cushman just completed a two-year term as National President of the Boy Scouts of
America and President of the Boy Scouts of America Foundation. He currently serves as a
member of the Boy Scout’s National Executive Board. He is a member of the Board of
the California Region I Homeland Security Advisory Council.
In 2004, Mr. Cushman was appointed by Governor Schwarzenegger to the California Commission
on Jobs and Economic Growth, and most recently was appointed to Mayor Villaraigosa’s Los
Angeles Economy and Jobs Committee. He is a director of the National Park Foundation, a
Trustee of the Urban Land Institute and a Director of the Real Estate Roundtable, all
headquartered in Washington, DC. He also serves as a Director of the Los Angeles World
Affairs Council. Additionally, Mr. Cushman serves as Trustee Emeritus of Colgate
University, as an honorary member of the Board of Fellows of Claremont University Center and
was formerly a director of the Claremont Graduate School and a member of the Colorado
University Boulder College of Business Advisory Board. He was awarded the Ellis Island
Medal of Honor in 2002.
Andrew D. Ratner has been involved in the commercial real estate services industry
for 25 years and was previously Regional Manager of Cushman & Wakefield’s West Coast
operations where he oversaw revenue growth of nearly 100 percent. He is currently
responsible for overseeing Cushman & Wakefield’s Global Consulting Group.
Prior to Cushman & Wakefield and Cushman Realty Corporation, Mr. Ratner worked as a
management consultant for KPMG Peat Marwick where he specialized in real estate, financial
institutions and bankruptcy. Since the beginning of his career, he has advised clients on
real estate development, consulting, lease, and structured finance and investment sales
assignments with a total aggregate value of more than $20 billion.
Mr. Ratner is a member of the Board of Directors, Executive Committee and is the Immediate
Past Chairman of the Board of Junior Achievement of Southern California, Inc., for which he was
recently awarded the inaugural Frank P. Pekny Award for exemplary board leadership. He is
a former member of the Executive Committee for the Los Angeles Economic Development
Corporation, member of the UCLA Business Economics Council and Alumni Association, and a member
of the Blue Ribbon Committee at the Jonathan Club. Mr. Ratner was selected as special
advisor to the California Real Estate Commissioner on the subject of license reciprocity.
He is a member of CoreNet Global and the Urban Land Institute.
Marc D. Renard is an executive director of Cushman & Wakefield’s Capital
Markets Group and is responsible for the firm’s investment brokerage activities
throughout Southern California. Since joining Cushman & Wakefield in 1983, Mr. Renard
has provided transaction and advisory services to clients, including the sale of more than 300
properties with an aggregate value in excess of $10 billion.
Mr. Renard has distinguished himself as a leader within the industry and has been recognized
with various honors including Cushman & Wakefield’s Top Investment Broker in the
Western region and/or California the years 1992, 1994-96, 1998, 2002-04. He has
represented the real estate interests of such major institutional clients as Heitman,
Metropolitan Life, AIMCO, Archstone-Smith, Morgan Stanley, GE Real Estate, Fidelity
Investments, Angelo Gordon, BRE Properties, Equity Residential, Citicorp, Well Fargo, RREEF,
TIAA-CREF, Cornerstone Real Estate Advisers, Prudential.
Mr. Renard is on the Board of Directors of the Arthritis Foundation, the Executive Committee
for The Vista Del Mar Foundation and is a frequent guest lecturer at industry conferences.
