  • Cushman & Wakefield Hospitality to help shape Libya's tourism industry

    21 May, 2008, Libya

Cushman & Wakefield Hospitality has been retained by the Government of Libya to provide expert advice on shaping the future of its tourism industry through the master planning of 300km of virgin Mediterranean coast line.

The Al Birdi Coastal Development Project represents a fundamental step change in Libya's recognition of the importance that tourism can play in its national economy. Despite being the fourth largest country in Africa, Libya only attracts 0.6 million international tourists, 10% of its neighbouring countries tourism arrivals (Tunisia, Morocco and Egypt).

The opportunity now exists to sensitively and imaginatively create a new hub for tourism in the north-east of the country towards the Egyptian border. The 300km stretch of coastline includes some dramatic scenery with coastal inlets, sandy beaches and cliff top views and what can be described as a blank canvas to design and implement the most significant tourism developments in Libya.

Working in partnership with local Government representatives and an appointed Master Planner, Cushman & Wakefield Hospitality will advise on the most appropriate tourism products and infrastructure requirements along this stretch of coastline and the test the feasibility of any recommendations. This initial phase of study is due to be completed by the end of 2008.

Nicholas Pattie, Managing Director, Cushman & Wakefield Hospitality says “This is an exciting time for the Libyan Tourism Industry and we are delighted to be involved in helping to shape its future.”
