Orvis/Cushman & Wakefield Ranch & Recreational Real Estate, LLC Sells Historic Plantation

Today Colorado Springs-based Orvis/Cushman & Wakefield announced the closing of the sale of the 13,000-acre world-famous Sedgefields Plantation in Union Springs, Alabama.
Sedgefields is considered one of the foremost preserves for quail hunting and boasts trophy bass fishing on its 370+ acres of lakes. The plantation was listed at $35 million and sold within close contact of the list price. The new ownership, Tolleson Land Investment Properties of Alabama, LLC, has indicated intentions to preserve the plantation as a recreational property.
The plantation was assembled in the 1920s by appliance tycoon Lewis B. Maytag, who named it Sedgefields for the beautiful broomsedge that grows on the rolling hills of the property. Sedgefields has drawn well-heeled hunters from across the nation for decades including the likes of Bob Hope and Bing Crosby. Renowned for its ongoing legacy as the site of the prestigious National Amateur Free-For-All Championship field trial, the plantation currently houses champion bird dogs in its premier kennels and hunting mounts in its historic 1920s-era barns. Highlighted on numerous hunting and fishing shows, the pine groves and waist-high grasslands at Sedgefields provide shelter for bobwhite quail, whitetail deer and wild turkey. With 371 acres of lakes stocked with trophy bass, Sedgefields Plantation is a magnificently managed game preserve.
