Cushman & Wakefield, a global real estate consultant, is one of the sponsors of the
Barcelona to Cannes Cycle Challenge 2008. Two employees of C&W are taking part in this
event: Michael Atwell, Partner and Head of Capital Markets Group for CEE based in Warsaw and PJ
Thibault from the UK based Cross Border Team.
The idea of the cycle originated 2 years ago with a group of keen London cyclists from the
property sector. One of the main goals is to raise money for charities connected with real
estate. The cycle is linked to the biggest in Real Estate Event in Europe, the Global Real
Estate Show in Cannes, MIPIM.
The Cycle Challenge starts on Friday 7th March and finishes on 11th of March to coincide
with the official opening of MIPIM. There are a total of 15 cyclists, all from the real estate
sector, competing in the Barcelona to Cannes event with a further 20 cyclists who will be
cycling a longer route from Calais in Northern France. The Barcelona route takes 5 days and
covers approximately 840 km with the longest days being up to 200km !
The event supports 4 main charity initiatives: LandAid - supporting projects connected with
homeless, Architects for Aid – helping to build homes after disasters, Arquitectos sin
Fronteras – activities supporting underdeveloped regions of the world, Fundation Vicente Ferrer
– an organization helping to transform one of the poorest and neediest regions of India,
Anantapur.
Both participants of the cycle from Cushman & Wakefield will also be supporting “Schools
Around The World” foundation, raisings funds from individuals and companies. Schools Around The
World is the social responsibility program organized by Cushman & Wakefield. Its objective
is to create new opportunities for the development of young people whose chances have been
limited due to family, social or financial reasons. (More information:
