Japanese fashion brand Onitsuka Tiger, famed for its innovative sporting products and
Japanese design, has acquired a 1,200 sq ft unit at
Westfield London. The new
store, which is expected to open for trading early next month, will showcase the full range
of shoe and apparel collections in a typical Japanese-style environment. Cushman &
Wakefield and Capital Retail advised Onitsuka Tiger.
The store will be Onitsuka Tiger‘s second outlet in the UK capital and will complement
its existing Newburgh Street, W1 store, which has traded since 2004. This new store will take
the total number of Onitsuka Tiger’s outlets in
Europe to seven and follows successful openings in Amsterdam, Berlin, Paris, Zurich and
Madrid.
At Westfield London, Onitsuka will occupy the unit previously occupied by Italian lingerie
brand Calzedonia which is located in the Central Square on the first floor of Westfield London
near Monsoon, Adidas and Hollister.
Chris Warren, Partner, Cushman & Wakefield. who advises Asics and Onitsuka Tiger across
Europe, said: “Onitsuka Tiger is a truly unique and innovative sports-fashion brand and
the success of its current stores in UK and continental
Europe, and the encouraging prospects for economic recovery, have made a compelling case
for expansion. Over the next 12 months we will be looking for new sites for Onitsuka Tiger
alongside, or close to, complementary clothing and fashion retailers in high-quality shopping
destinations across Europe. We are also seeking stores for Asics in major European
cities.”
Fernando Pina Mulas, European Head of Retail for ASICS and Onitsuka Tiger said; “We
are really excited to be opening our second London store at Westfield which promises to be the
top destination for our young and stylish target market from across West London and further
afield.”
