Cushman & Wakefield has acquired three more sites for budget
fitness centre operator The Gym; Leeds (c. 20,000 sq ft), Bristol (c. 16,500 sq ft) and
Kingston-upon-Thames (c. 17,500 sq ft).
The Gym centres stay open around the clock and do not tie members into a contract. As there
are no swimming pools or cafes at the centres, costs are kept down by having fewer staff
employed.
Thomas Rose, Senior Surveyor at Cushman & Wakefield said, "These three acquisitions
totalling nearly 55,000 sq ft illustrate the demand for affordable gym membership across the
UK. The prime locations we have secured highlight the quality of The Gym's offer and appeal to
major landlords such as Hammerson and LaSalle. The Gym is the leading operator in the sector
and it is continuing its aggressive expansion having secured £30millon of funding to acquire at
least 20 new sites in 2011, with a specific focus on
London."
