Etihad European headquarters moves to Potsdamer Platz

Etihad Airways, the airline from the United Arab Emirates, is opening its new European headquarters in the Potsdamer Platz square in April next year. The passenger carrier is acquiring some 1,600 sqm of office space on the eighth floor of 2 Linkstraße, for which it managed to conclude a ten-year lease assisted by mediation from the international property consultancy Cushman & Wakefield (C&W).
Etihad is moving its German offices from Munich to Berlin; if nothing else to be able to make better use of its strategic partnership with Air Berlin. As part of its unique search mandate, C&W checked numerous locations for Etihad Airways in Berlin. Based on its high degree of space efficiency, its central and international location and the outstanding architecture of Richard Rogers, the airline finally decided on the property at 2 Linkstraße.

In 2011, the Arabian airline transported 8.3 million passengers. Its fleet of aircraft currently comprises 70 planes, and this is set to be expanded over the coming years. In December of last year, Etihad increased its stake in Air Berlin to 29% and is now the largest single shareholder of the Berlin-based carrier.

The public square of Potsdamer Platz, which opened around 14 years ago, consists of 19 buildings, ten streets and two squares. In addition to offices and flats, two hotels, a cinema, three theatres, a casino, two night clubs, two health centres, a shopping centre with over 130 specialist shops and some 30 restaurants bars and cafés are accommodated over 550,000 sqm of gross floor space.

The square is owned by the open property fund SEB ImmoInvest and it is managed by SEB Asset Management, which was advised on the lease by the ECE subsidiary PPMG, Potsdamer Platz Management GmbH.
