  • Prominent Executive Takes On Expanded Leadership Role At Cushman & Wakefield

    5 Dec, 2006, Los Angeles

Joseph Vargas to Lead the Firm’s Southern California Offices

Cushman & Wakefield announced today the promotion of Joseph Vargas to Executive Managing Director, Area Manager for Southern California.  Mr. Vargas was previously a senior managing director based in the firm’s Orange County office.  He has managed Cushman & Wakefield branches in Orange County, Inland Empire and Los Angeles South Bay for the past seven years.

In his new high-profile role, Mr. Vargas will partner with the firm’s local branch managers in Southern California and leverage their ongoing regional leadership and successes in order to build an integrated business platform across Southern California.  Mr. Vargas will be responsible for the regions of Los Angeles, Orange County, Inland Empire and San Diego.

“This is a critical role for the firm.  Joe's success as a branch manager, combined with nearly 20 years of experience in the real estate industry, will allow Cushman & Wakefield to maintain and considerably grow its leadership position in Southern California,” says Tony Marano, chief executive officer of the Americas for Cushman & Wakefield.

In addition to his new leadership role for Southern California, Mr. Vargas will also be working closely with C&W management and industrial brokers nationwide to grow the firm’s Industrial Service group and take advantage of the opportunities in the Southern California market.

During his tenure at Cushman & Wakefield, Mr. Vargas was instrumental in a number of strategic business development successes of the firm, including the acquisition of Matlow-Kennedy, San Diego Corporate Real Estate Advisors and the merger with Cushman Realty Corporation. Mr. Vargas’ impressive track record of success includes marketing, leasing and sales of premier office buildings and projects throughout California. As the former senior director of Cushman & Wakefield Agency Leasing group, he managed the marketing and leasing of an office portfolio of more than five million square feet for institutional and entrepreneurial owners.

Prior to joining Cushman & Wakefield, Mr. Vargas served as senior vice president and district manager for the Grubb & Ellis Company in Orange County. His duties included managing two offices and overseeing recruitment and business development for the office and investment divisions.

Mr. Vargas is a graduate of the University of California, Los Angeles. He is on the Board of Directors of the American Industrial Real Estate Association (AIR), the L.A. Headquarters Association and the Southern California Chapter of the NAIOP, and a member of the Urban Land Institute (ULI), CoreNet Global and the Los Angeles Commercial Realty Association (LACRA).  He was also a two-time United States Olympian (1980 and 1984) in the sport of Water Polo and a silver medalist in the 1984 games.
