  • Junior Achievement Recognizes Cushman & Wakefield For Long-Time Support

9 Feb, 2006, Los Angeles, CA

Junior Achievement of Southern California has recognized John C. Cushman III, Chairman of the Board of Cushman & Wakefield, with the 2005 Spirit of Achievement Award.  The award was presented at the annual Spirit of Achievement Gala Dinner, held by Junior Achievement at the Beverly Hilton Hotel in Los Angeles.

The prestigious award is the highest honor presented by Junior Achievement of Southern California.  Introduced in 1988, the award recognizes individuals who have made a significant contribution to our community and to promoting and supporting the needs of education.  Through this award, Junior Achievement strives to honor important role models that the youth can look up to.  The annual Gala Dinner is one of the main fund-raisers organized by Junior Achievement in Southern California.  The proceeds received this year, $535,000, will be allocated directly to educational programs and projects in Southern California.

Cushman & Wakefield has been a long-time supporter of Junior Achievement.  Most recently, the firm hosted its annual Job Shadow Day at the Downtown Los Angeles office, opening doors to students from Crenshaw High School.  50 junior and senior students paired up with Cushman & Wakefield's professionals to directly experience the workplace and learn what it takes to achieve success in the world of business.  The firm hosted two Job Shadow events in 2005.

Bowl-A-Thon is another event supported by Cushman & Wakefield in Los Angeles.  It is a fund-raising initiative for Junior Achievement's in-school economic educational programs.  60 employees from Cushman & Wakefield participated in the $30,000 fund-raising initiative.

Junior Achievement is a volunteer-driven non-profit economic education organization, founded in 1919 in Springfield, Massachusetts.   It currently reaches over 4 million elementary, middle and high school students in the U.S. and 108 countries worldwide.
