  • Commercial Real Estate Women Of Dallas Strengthen Diversity Effort

    13 Mar, 2006, Dallas, TX

Real Estate Giants Join Together to Empower Women of Tomorrow Through Career Development

The Dallas chapter of CREW (Commercial Real Estate Women), with the support of Cushman & Wakefield and other national sponsors, is reaching out to area high school girls through an innovative course designed to educate teens on career opportunities for women within commercial real estate.  CREW Careers, a program of CREW Foundation being held in 20 cities throughout the nation, is launching a multi-week program in Dallas beginning on March 21, 2006.

Local girls selected by Girls, Inc. will join CREW Dallas members in a multi-week program designed to introduce the professions involved in creating and selling a real estate development. Participants will work side by side with CREW architects, brokers, property managers and others to gain exposure to the commercial real estate industry.  The Dallas event will take place at the Girls, Inc. offices, located at 2040 Empire Central in Dallas.

Cushman & Wakefield, Inc., the world's largest privately held commercial real estate services firm, is the Global Executive Partner of CREW Careers with CREW Foundation, the philanthropic arm of CREW Network.  The company delivers integrated solutions by actively advising, implementing and managing on behalf of landlords, tenants, and investors through every stage of the real estate process.

"As the top provider for commercial real estate services across the globe, Cushman & Wakefield knows first hand the importance women and minorities add to the foundation of our values and to the expectations of our clients," said Elizabeth Trocchio, executive managing director of Cushman & Wakefield of Texas, Inc. and a member of the firm's global diversity council. "It is up to the women in our firm today to clear a path for the women of tomorrow. CREW Careers gives us that opportunity - the opportunity to give back, the opportunity to make a difference in the future of young women and in the future of our industry."

The CREW Careers program was launched in Dallas in 2004, and taken nationally in 2005 by CREW Foundation in conjunction with a research initiative by CREW Network to measure the progress that women were making in commercial real estate.

Women in Commercial Real Estate 2005 was the first industry-wide look at differences in salaries and promotions for men and women. The study found that across the many different specialties of commercial real estate, men reach senior level positions more often and more quickly than women. In addition, they earn more with similar levels of experience. For a copy of that report, visit www.crewnetwork.org.

"CREW Careers is designed to lessen those differences by being the leading source for education and opportunities to young women as they begin to consider opportunities after high school," said Debra Morgan, Chair of CREW Careers for the Dallas Chapter.  "We are excited to spend time with the Girls, Inc. girls over a multi-week program with a focus on ground-up development of a garden style apartment complex."

Other global partners are KeyBank, Starbucks Coffee Company, Guggenheim Capital LLC, McCarthy Building Companies and the National Association of Industrial and Office Properties.  Additional donors to the program are CREW Miami and Perkins Coie LLP.
