  • Cushman & Wakefield's Arthur J. Mirante II Honored by Holy Cross

17 Jun, 2005, New York, NY

Arthur J. Mirante II, President, Global Client Development at Cushman & Wakefield, was the honoree of the Holy Cross Leadership Council of New York at a recent dinner at the New York Palace Hotel.

Mr. Mirante, a 1965 graduate of Holy Cross, joins previous honorees William McDonough '56 (President and CEO of the Federal Reserve Bank of New York), Bob Wright '65 (Chairman and CEO, NBC Universal), Jack Sinnot '61 (Chairman, Marsh Inc.), and Billy Collins '63 (United States Poet Laureate). All titles were held at the time they were honored by Holy Cross.

More than 350 people attended the dinner, including leaders from all walks of life: major corporations, real estate, banking, insurance and the legal community. The dinner raised more than $437,000 to support the work and students of Holy Cross.

Mr. Mirante is one of the most accomplished and prominent executives in the real estate industry. Following a 20-year career as President and CEO of Cushman & Wakefield, Mr. Mirante assumed the position of President, Global Client Development. In his role he focuses exclusively on working with the firm's clients, expanding existing relationships and providing unparalleled and distinctive service.

In his new position, Mr. Mirante works with a number of multinational corporations, including serving on a team of Cushman & Wakefield real estate professionals who recently represented Metropolitan Life in the largest single asset sale ever in commercial real estate, the $1.7 billion sale of 200 Park Avenue in Manhattan. Among his current activities are a major sale in Paris and a large commercial lease in Detroit. Throughout his distinguished career, Mr. Mirante has actively participated in some of the firm's largest and most complex transactions, such as the sale of the World Trade Center, the headquarters relocations of MasterCard International and Guardian Life Insurance and a major multi-asset disposition of more than $1 billion for Metropolitan Life. He has also helped manage some of the firm's most prolific and prestigious global accounts.

Mr. Mirante was named CEO in 1984 and guided the dramatic transformation of the 88-year old firm from a regional brokerage company into a global multi-service real estate firm with 11,000 employees in 50 countries. As a result of his efforts, Cushman & Wakefield either dominates or is a market leader in all of its businesses.

During his tenure as CEO, Cushman & Wakefield's revenues increased from $100 million to $1 billion and the firm expanded from 60 U.S. offices to 175 offices, including 100 outside the country.

Under Mr. Mirante's leadership, the firm expanded its capabilities into Advisory and Client Solutions, diversified its financial services expertise to include the multi-family sector, and enhanced support for and grown its national retail and industrial real estate market share.

Mr. Mirante completed two separate mergers that helped transform the company: the merger in 1998 with the prestigious partnership of Healey & Baker, which today comprises the firm's European Operations, and in 2001, the merger with the powerhouse tenant representative firm Cushman Realty Corporation.

In addition to his degree from Holy Cross, Mr. Mirante is a graduate of St. John's University Law School (J.D., 1968). He also holds an honorary degree, Doctor of Human Letters, from St. John's University, and is a member of the University's Board of Trustees. Mr. Mirante is an active member of the community, serving on the boards of numerous not-for-profit organizations and cultural institutions, including The United Way of New York City, The Alvin Ailey Dance Company, The National Jewish Center for Immunology and Respiratory Medicine, New York City Partnership and Chamber of Commerce, and The Realty Foundation of New York, Inc. Mr. Mirante has been honored by many community and cultural institutions, including Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts, which named him its Real Estate and Construction Council 2001 Gala Honoree.

Most recently, The Arts & Business Council named Mr. Mirante Business Volunteer of the Year in 2003, and he and his wife, Elizabeth, were honored by the Alvin Ailey Dance Theater for their efforts in securing a new headquarters for Ailey's world famous dance ensemble. In 2002, Mr. Mirante was honored by Barcelona Meeting Point (BMP), the leading European real estate exhibition and symposium, which named him its Best International Real Estate Professional.

The Holy Cross Leadership Council of New York was founded in 1997 to raise the profile of the College among business leaders in the New York metropolitan area. The Leadership Council initiated and provides major support for the Holy Cross Summer Internship Program. It also sponsors a Distinguished Speakers Series. It provides a venue for Holy Cross alumni to network with their business associates, and it brings prominent executives back to campus to assist with the career counseling process. Consistent with the Holy Cross mission, the Council has undertaken a strong service initiative, which includes support for New York charities such as the Nativity Mission Center, St. Aloysius School, Good Shepherd Services and Habitat for Humanity.

Since 1843, Holy Cross, located in Worcester, Mass., has sought to educate students who, as leaders in business, professional, and civic life, would live by the highest intellectual and ethical standards. In service of this ideal, Holy Cross endeavors to create an environment in which integrated learning is a shared responsibility, pursued in classroom and laboratory, studio and theater, residence and chapel. Shared responsibility for the life and governance of the College should lead all its members to make the best of their own talents, to work together, to be sensitive to one another, to serve others, and to seek justice within and beyond the Holy Cross community.
