Cushman & Wakefield today announced that Bill Magner, a leading commercial real estate
brokerage professional and executive with 30 years of industry experience, has been named
Executive Managing Director and Area Leader of the firm's Mid-Atlantic and Southeast Region.
The role was previously held by Jim Underhill, who was recently named CEO, Americas for the
firm.
Mr. Magner will be based in Cushman & Wakefield's Washington, D.C. office. He was
previously Director of Brokerage for the Mid-Atlantic region of Jones Lang LaSalle, where he
was asked to direct Tenant Representation Services for the U.S. and was a Member of the Global
Transactions Board.
Prior to joining JLL, Mr. Magner was Principal and Executive Team member of Spaulding &
Slye, a full-service commercial real estate firm based in Boston, MA, which was acquired by JLL
in 2006. He spent 22 years with Spaulding & Slye, first as an agency and tenant
representative, where he was involved in relationships with IBM, Lockheed Martin and Bank of
America. Mr. Magner soon rose to lead the firm's Bethesda office.
"Bill comes to Cushman & Wakefield with unmatched experience and is well-respected
within our industry - both in Washington, D.C. and throughout the country," said Mr.
Underhill. "Under his direction, Spaulding & Slye was well-known in Washington for its
collaborative approach in serving clients. We look forward to Bill bringing his talent to our
Mid-Atlantic and Southeast operations."
"I am very pleased to join Cushman & Wakefield at this moment in time," said
Mr. Magner. "I have long respected the level of talent and professionalism represented by
the Cushman & Wakefield brand and I am looking forward to bringing my background to the
team as it pursues an aggressive growth strategy domestically and abroad."
In 1996, Mr. Magner was appointed Director of Transaction Services for Spaulding &
Slye's Washington, D.C. market, overseeing the development of industry-specific practice
groups, and building the firm's Investor Services team, which included Debt, Structured
Finance, Investment Sales and Investor Leading. His responsibilities grew to include the
Mid-Atlantic and New England regions, and Spaulding & Slye became a major competitor in the
Washington, D.C. market.
Mr. Magner began his real estate career as a broker with the McCann Company in Houston.
Mr. Magner is an active member of his community. He is a former Board Chair of the Mater Dei
School in Bethesda and currently sits on the Boards of The Washington Jesuit Academy, Little
Sisters of the Poor in Washington, and the Ivy Mount School in Bethesda.
