David Bernhaut
Biography
David Bernhaut serves as Vice Chairman of the Capital Markets Group. He is responsible for
real estate investment service activities including the marketing of corporate and investment
property in the suburban New York Metropolitan area.
Over the past decade, Mr. Bernhaut has been involved in more than $15 billion of property
sales including $10 billion of office transactions, $1.4 billion of retail sales and over $1.7
billion of industrial property sales. Additionally, he has consistently ranked among the top
five brokers in New Jersey (1994 through 2008) and in the top ten for the Capital Markets Group
nationwide.
Notable recent sale transactions include the 830,305 square foot, $228 million sale of
Metropark Office Center in Iselin, New Jersey, the sale of Merrill Lynch’s 685,000 square foot
Plainsboro Campus to Ivy Equities and Lubert Adler for $107 million, the sale of the Birchwood
Retail and Office Portfolio on Long Island for $120 million; and the sale of BASF’s 951,000
square foot former North American Headquarters to BPG.
Mr. Bernhaut helped start the New Jersey Capital Markets Group in 1987 after receiving an
MBA in real estate finance from Columbia University and an undergraduate degree from the
University of Michigan. Prior to joining C&W, he ran his own real estate brokerage and
consulting business for two years and prior to that, he marketed real estate limited
partnerships for a nationwide securities broker/dealer.
Mr. Bernhaut has served on the company’s National Brokerage Advisory Board and was named the
“2002-2003 Leading Financial Services Group Brokerage Professional”, along with his partner
Andrew Merin. Mr. Bernhaut and his team have also been awarded the Northern New Jersey NAIOP
Creative Deal of the Year award five of the last eight years.
