Our national Out of Town Retail team provides advice throughout the UK on all aspects of this
specialist retail sector including retail parks, stand alone retail warehousing, and
foodstores. We provide market leading advice to landowners, local authorities, investors,
developers and retailers.
Our team is one of the largest in the sector but is most notable for its high level of
seniority and depth of experience. Clients benefit from a Partner level service on all projects
with at team that is hardworking and innovative in adopting a client first approach to all
appointments.
We offer a full range of specialist advice in agency, investment and lease advisory.
Recognising that clients want an integrated service, our team has been specifically set up as a
single national business unit to combine these three key functions. Our “joined–up” approach
enables the team to respond quickly to our clients needs on a comprehensive and well informed
basis.
Investment
One of the most active and effective teams in the out of town retail investment sector. The
team provides acquisition, sales and strategic advice to investors on a wide range of scheme
sizes throughout the UK.
Over the last two years the team has advised on the sale and purchase of in excess of £1.2
billion of retail investment properties.
Letting
Our agency team provides specialist letting advice to landlords and developers across the whole
of the UK. Our strong knowledge of retailers’ requirements allows us to identify opportunities
to lease space on the best possible terms for our landlord clients.
Development
We have extensive expertise in the development of all forms of out of town retail property
including standalone DIY stores, retail parks, edge of centre schemes and foodstores. We
provide landowners, developers and retailers with advice on site potential, development value,
acquisition and tenant demand. We negotiate pre let agreements, conditional contracts and
advise on scheme design to maximise development return.
In 2011 we advised on over 1.2 million sq ft of retail warehouse development.
Asset Management
We advise clients on how to unlock the full potential from their existing retail assets by
identifying and implementing bespoke asset management strategies to optimise total return
performance.
Asset management requires an integrated approach combining input from leasing, development,
investment and lease advisory. Our single national business team structure therefore allows us
to be highly effective in providing asset management advice. We have a strong track record in
transforming underinvested assets into modern, outperforming properties.
We currently advise on 92 retail parks throughout the UK totalling in excess of 12.5 million sq
ft.
Retailer Advice
We act on a retained and non retained basis for many of the leading retailers active within the
out of town sector.
We provide retailers with advice on the acquisition of new stores and disposal of surplus
space. We specialise in advising retailers who want to enter the UK out of town retail sector
starting from high level research based consultancy through to detailed new store
negotiations.
In addition to this we advise retailers on how to maximise their existing property portfolios
including buying-in freeholds, sale and leasebacks and lease restructuring e.g. early
surrenders or regears.
Food Retail
Food retail is a major component of the out of town retail market. We have considerable
expertise in this highly specialised sector advising landlords, developers, investors and
supermarket operators.
We assist landowners and developers on the foodstore potential, identifying supermarket
operator demand and delivering strategies to secure retailer commitments.
We have a strong record in advising landlords and investors in the acquisition and disposal of
foodstore investment properties and rent review.
On a non retained basis, we act for all the major supermarket operators introducing and
advising upon new store opportunities in this highly competitive and fast growing sector.
Lease Advisory
Our professional team advises on retail parks, single let units, foodstores, leisure schemes
and restaurant units. The team offers services in the following:

- lease renewals
- dispute resolution and expert witness advice
- arbitration and independent expert referrals
- lease advice, restructuring and regearing
- rental valuation advice in combination with our agency and investment teams
We act for a wide range of landlords including property companies, private investors and
institutions covering the entire UK.
In 2011 we were involved with 145 tenancies totalling 2,650,000 sq ft and a total rent roll
in excess of £40m per annum.
